World Beatles Day – June 25

World Beatles Day – June 25, the international community comes together to celebrate World Beatles Day. This holiday pays tribute to the Beatles and the impact they had on both music history and popular culture in general. Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison exploded into popularity in 1962, and went on to release a series of groundbreaking songs and albums throughout the next decade. Their first performance in the United States, at the Washington Coliseum in 1964, is still one of the most well-known concerts in U.S. history. World Beatles Day was founded in 2009 as a way to honor the Beatles’ contribution to several genres of music, and their platform of peace, positivity, and enthusiasm. The Beatles’ beloved hit, “All You Need Is Love,” was first performed on British television on June 25, 1967, which is the reason for the holiday’s date. Rather than shopping for Beatles products or promoting competition over who is the band’s biggest fan, the holiday is intended to spark inspiration and reflection over the Beatles’ positive messages. It’s a great day to hug your loved ones, consider which social causes mean the most to you, and choose peace and love over anger and fear.

HOW TO CELEBRATE WORLD BEATLES DAY

1. Listen to a Beatles album
Press play on your favorite Beatles album and have a dance party. Jam out to songs like “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” “All You Need Is Love,” “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds,” or whatever hit floats your boat.

2. Go see a Beatles tribute band
Beatles tribute concerts are held regularly all over the world, and many are uncannily similar to the original musicians. Some famous groups, like The Fab Four and Rain, have the Beatles’ mannerisms and voices down to a science. If you’re looking for a Beatles-inspired show that takes some more creative liberties, there’s even a Cirque du Soleil production based on the Beatles catalogue!

3. Visit a famous Beatles location like Abbey Road Studios or Strawberry Fields
If you’re in a city where the Beatles spent a lot of time, pay a visit to some of the sites most heavily associated with the band. Abbey Road Studios in London, and its famous nearby crosswalk, is a popular place for Beatles fans to visit. You can also stop by London’s 3 Savile Row, which served as the headquarters for the band’s record label and the location of their final live performance, on the building’s rooftop. In Liverpool, check out The Beatles Story museum and stop by the real Penny Lane, band members’ childhood homes, and other local haunts immortalized in their music. If you’re in New York City, you can stop by Strawberry Fields, a beautiful corner of Central Park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon. There, you can find a serene grassy meadow and the famed “Imagine” mosaic, where fans leave flowers, play music, and reflect on Lennon’s legacy.

WHY WE LOVE WORLD BEATLES DAY

A. They have one of the catchiest musical catalogues out there
The Beatles have a diverse, upbeat, and complex musical collection. From their early release of Meet The Beatles, to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, to Let It Be, the Beatles’ musical collection offers a stunning variety of styles and themes. No matter what kind of music you’re into, there’s something for almost everyone to listen — and dance — to.

B. They were each special in their own way
Everyone has a favorite Beatle, and there’s no wrong choice. John Lennon was known as the cheeky one, Paul McCartney as the cute one, George Harrison as the quiet one, and Ringo as the quirky one, but they were each so much more than their stereotypes and each have powerful legacies that live on in their music.

C. They encouraged a loving, joyful message
The Beatles are known for encouraging their fans to love those around them, to express positivity, and to advocate for peace. They also played a part in shaping worldwide fashion trends and cultural attitudes.
